July 29-August 2, 2024 - Chelmsford

We are proud every year to offer our experienced dancers the chance to spend a week in the studio learning new choreography, improve céilí dancing technique, building up stamina through exercise and create memories with dance friends.

Exciting news! We are offering our summer intensive program to Heavey Quinn dancers, ages 5 – 8, as well as dancers outside of Heavey Quinn with no Irish dance experience. This group will meet Monday through Friday, 9:00 – 12:00. This is a fun and engaging program, which will culminate in a performance of The Pot of Gold on Friday evening.

We are delighted to welcome Máire Clerkin, who will work on dance drama and performance training for Irish Dancers. Máire works as a Teaching Artist for the Music Center of Los Angeles, Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, and LA Arts Group. Maire has a 34 year history of adjudication, artistic director of touring dance theatre companies, has choreographed 7 Regional Dance Drama Oireachtas titles, nationals and world podium placers.

Over the course of the week dancers will be playing theatre games, creating comic characters, stomping out body percussion, singing songs and making up verses, dancing rhythms, chanting rhymes, practicing narration, ensemble movement, miming and gesture improvisation, discovering emotional acting, marching in lines, spinning in circles, dancing céilí dances like never before, listening to stories, and bringing the page to the stage; all culminating in a performance of The King's Secret.
In the performance training classes, Máire uses theatre techniques to build stage confidence, improve performance and prepare for future competitions. During these sessions she gives individual dance feedback, addressing and changing each dancer’s mindset.

The performance for all groups, followed by a social hour, will take place on Friday evening (Aug 2) - time and venue to be confirmed.

Open to ALL children ages 5-8.  You do not need to be a current student of Heavey Quinn to attend!  No Irish Dance experience necessary.

A fun and engaging week of theatre games, comic characters, body percussion, dancing rhythms, and chanting rhythms which will culminate in our end of the week performance of "The Pot of Gold!"
